Halal Scanner: Food Check — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Halal Scanner: Food Check is provided by Meomsoft. This policy explains how the mobile app handles information when you scan food products, read ingredient labels and use Premium. For privacy questions or requests, contact info@meomsoft.com.
1. Your information at a glance
No Meomsoft account or sign-in is required. Scan history, saved products, confirmed label photos, ingredient preferences, settings and daily scan counts are stored on your device. We do not operate a cloud account or sync service for these records.
The app is not entirely offline: barcode lookups and some connectivity checks contact Open Food Facts; Google ML Kit processes technical metrics; and RevenueCat and the relevant app store process subscription information. These flows are explained below.
2. Camera, label photos and ingredient text
Camera permission is requested for barcode scanning and ingredient-label photography. You can refuse or revoke it in your device settings and still enter barcodes manually. The app does not record audio.
Barcode detection, label text recognition and ingredient-rule assessment take place on your device. The app does not upload camera frames, label photos, recognized text or your ingredient preferences to Meomsoft, Open Food Facts, RevenueCat or an external AI service. You can review and edit recognized text before confirming it. Confirmed label photos may be saved in the app’s private storage with the scan record; temporary capture and crop files are removed by the capture workflow.
3. Open Food Facts and online connections
When you scan or manually submit a barcode, the app sends that barcode to Open Food Facts to retrieve product names, ingredients, images and related food information. Loading those images also makes requests to Open Food Facts image servers. The app may make a separate lightweight request to Open Food Facts to check internet access before a free scan, including a label scan; that check does not send your label photo or text.
These connections expose your IP address, request time and normal request information to the service. Barcode requests include the app’s name/version and our developer contact address, not your personal email. We do not submit your scans as public contributions to the database. Open Food Facts handles information under its privacy policy.
4. Google ML Kit technical data
The app uses Google ML Kit for on-device text recognition. Google states that input images and text, and recognition results, are not sent to its servers by ML Kit. The SDK does send technical data such as device and operating-system details, app version and identifier, installation identifiers, API configuration, event/error information and performance metrics for diagnostics and usage analysis. It may contact Google for updates and compatibility information. This technical processing is distinct from uploading label content. See ML Kit privacy information, its iOS data disclosures and Google’s privacy policy.
5. Premium subscriptions and payments
Apple processes purchases on iOS. Where subscriptions are enabled on Android, Google Play processes those payments. RevenueCat helps retrieve plans, verify transactions, restore purchases, unlock Premium and understand subscription activity. The app checks subscription status at launch, on return to the foreground and when checking scan access, so RevenueCat can be contacted even without a purchase.
This involves a generated app user identifier, purchase history, transaction/receipt verification information, subscription and entitlement status, and app/device information used by the subscription service. Online requests also expose connection information such as your IP address. We do not set your name or email as RevenueCat customer attributes or send it your scan history, label content or ingredient preferences. We do not receive your full payment card details. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy, Apple’s App Store privacy notice and, where applicable, Google’s privacy policy.
6. Advertising, profiling and support
The app has no advertising SDK, cross-app advertising tracking, or separate general-purpose analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The SDK metrics and subscription analysis described above still apply. We do not sell personal information or share it for behavioral advertising. We do not use your scans to build a religious, health or advertising profile. Ingredient choices may reveal personal beliefs or dietary preferences; those choices remain on your device.
If you email us, we receive your email address and any information or attachments you choose to send. We use these to respond and resolve your request. Avoid sending sensitive or unrelated information.
7. Retention and deleting information
Local scan records and confirmed photos remain until you remove them, clear your scan history or delete the app’s local data. The clear-history control in Settings clears scan history, associated stored label photos and saved products; it does not reset ingredient preferences, settings or the daily scan counter. Ingredient preferences can be reset separately in the ingredient guide. Removing the app removes its local app data, subject to device backup and restore behavior. We do not provide our own cloud backup; operating-system backups may retain copies according to your device settings.
Clearing local data does not cancel a subscription or delete store or RevenueCat records. Cancel subscriptions in your app-store account. For deletion or access requests about information processed on our behalf, email info@meomsoft.com; we may ask for limited purchase details or an app user identifier to locate the record. We cannot retrieve scan history that exists only on your device. Subscription, support and service records may be retained as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, prevent fraud and resolve disputes; they are deleted or de-identified when no longer needed. Independent provider records are governed by their own retention policies.
8. Purposes, providers and international processing
We use information to deliver requested scans and Premium features, verify and restore purchases, maintain service reliability and answer support requests. Where a legal basis is required, processing depends on the activity: providing requested services, complying with legal obligations, legitimate interests in security and reliability where permitted, or consent where required. Camera permission can be withdrawn through device settings.
Providers named above may process technical, connection or subscription information outside your country, including in the United States and Europe, under their applicable terms and privacy policies. Local-only scan content is not transferred to them by the app. We may disclose information we hold when legally required or necessary to protect legal rights. We do not make solely automated decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects.
9. Your choices and rights
You can manage camera access, remove local scans, reset ingredient preferences, and manage or cancel subscriptions through your device and app-store settings. Depending on applicable law, including KVKK or GDPR where applicable, you may have rights to information, access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability and withdrawal of consent, and to complain to a competent data-protection authority. Send requests to info@meomsoft.com. We may need proportionate verification before acting and will respond within the period required by applicable law. Withdrawing consent does not affect prior lawful processing.
10. Security, children and changes
Local records use the app’s private storage and device protections; online services are accessed over HTTPS. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect access to your device and its backups.
The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can address it.
This policy covers the mobile app. Our website and external pages have their own privacy notices. We update this policy when data practices change, revise the date above, and provide additional notice where required. Contact Meomsoft at info@meomsoft.com.
